I AM CROSSFIT – A Summer Challenge for Athletes / Students at CrossFit Jozi.
When I got the challenge notes a couple of days ago, I literally jumped out of my chair with excitement, printed off the challenge notes, registered and that was that. But suddenly this last week and it dawned on me that this challenge has a lot more to it than just “EAT RIGHT, TRAIN HARD, SLEEP WELL”.
In April 2011, I was introduced to a new world. A world called Crossfit. Just an ordinary 28 year old guy, love beer, love pizza. I was slightly overweight and pretty much unfit and generally unhealthy. My intro workout included 7 Wallballs and 7 Burpees (7 Times!!!). WAKE-UP CALL! You are one unfit lad, you will have health problems before you hit 40. So I signed up for the onramp class, got straight into the normal classes and entered my first challenge, the Winter Challenge.
Six weeks of eating correctly, training & sleeping well. I lost close to 10kg’s and a huge amount of body fat. There were a few cheats here and there but overall I was super proud of myself and still am of the achievements and progress I made over the 6 weeks and continue to make in my lifestyle and better living. But what I never realized with the first challenge was that there is a lot more to these challenges than just “EAT RIGHT, TRAIN HARD, SLEEP WELL”. I took it as this once off sort of quick fix diet programme.
That is not CrossFit..Come on Rubs…CrossFit is a lifestyle change for “LIFE”, and it will change your life if you have the dedication and will to do so.
This is a personal challenge to change your lifestyle. This is that moment when you say to yourself, “I can make a change in my life and one that is for the better”.
The challengers “general” goal is for us to reduce our Body fat percentage, get us eating correctly, get fitter, get stronger, and achieve that lifestyle change instilled within us.
But just take some time out and really think about why you are doing this. Is it to lose weight, is it to get fit, is it simply just to win? What are your “personal goals”? Really think hard about why you are doing this and set those goal, push your limits and give yourself something extra.
For me joining CrossFit Jozi has been one of the best decisions of my life and I am a far better person for it. I wake up and live everyday feeling great about life and I own my life a little more and have realized that life is to be lived and treasured.
My personal goals for this challenge are to instill this lifestyle of CrossFit, so that it lives with me until the day I kick the bucket. I want to approach every training session with 100% motivation and give every training session 100% of what my body has to offer. I want to support and push the peeps doing this as their first challenge, because it is not an easy road, but the reward is truly worth it. Trust me.
Remind yourself everyday….”I AM CROSSFIT”
I am going to sit down over the next few days and put my goals down. Then I’m going to improve on them, I am going to list the skills I am weak at, I am going to master them. I am going to diarize my WOD time / reps; I am going to improve on them.
Take that time to think about your reasoning for doing this. I challenge you. Write it down and stick to it. I think our results will shine just that little more if we set our own personal goals on this as well.
Support your fellow peeps. Push them to do a little more and get to know them better! Crossfit Jozi is a community.
This challenge and ones to come have a lot more meaning than just eight weeks, they have life changing benefits, take them seriously and with each one approach them with more intent than the last.
“I AM CROSSFIT”
Peace Out
Rubs
